This morning Olivia and I met with Jaime Suchlicki, a Cuban Jew who is also the director for the Institute for Cuban and Cuban-American Studies (ICCAS).
We had an extremely intriguing conversation about his life and how he came over to Miami from Cuba when he was just 19. He knew he wanted to be involved in politics, but didn’t know where life would take him.
Over that past decade, he’s met two US presidents and developed a cultured program using ICCAS as the main umbrella. He took us on a tour of the Bacardi building which is located just off of San Amaro (frat row).
I’m glad he was very helpful and open because it allowed for more of a dialogue rather than Q&A. I know I’ll be in touch with him throughout the semester for guidance and to be pointed in the right direction.
